The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order
“Clash of Civilization” by Samuel P. Huntington addresses the structural alignments of the global politics in the post-Cold War era. He describes the new alignment of international forces, Western civilization, and the balance of power in today’s world. His central argument is cultural and intercultural identities as the primary source of conflict among international institutions in the post-Cold War world (21). After the Cold war, countries shifted from being defined by their ideological differences or status. Both Capitalists and Communist’s ideologies were deemed futile. Countries adopted cultural and religious identities as a new form of civilization. Huntington identifies seven civilizations based on various aspects, for instance, history, language, customs, and religion.
