Servant Leadership and Diversity Promotion
Chapter 1
Background Information
It remains a fact that effective implementation of workplace diversity programs can create a competitive advantage in corporate companies (Dike, 2013). Dike (2013), explained that diversity facilitates stronger work cultures, happier more productive employees, and drives optimal financial returns. The aforementioned assertions stand supported by a 2014 report on the connection between workplace diversity and a company’s financial performance. The report “Why Diversity Matters” stands as an analysis of 366 international organizations (including the U.S. agencies) where diversity remains a top priority. The data collected disclosed a statistically significant association between diversity and financial performance, with organizations in the top quartile for gender diversity 15% more likely to have financial returns above their national industry median and organizations in the top quartile for racial/ethnic diversity 30% more likely to have financial returns above their national industry median (Hunt, Layton, & Prince, 2015).
